Numismatics has many avenues within it. Both coin and banknote collecting are equally as fun and profitable! With both coins and banknotes, grading is perhaps the single most important ingredient of value when it comes to collecting currency, so we will cover that too! Gold and silver collecting is also covered in this book, so hopefully there is something for everyone!
Back to the task at hand. I think many people know they want to collect, but do not know how to get started or what to look for when searching spare change and bills. This book covers just that! It’s for us, the ones who want to turn their pocket change into more money!

Whatever coin, banknote and precious metals collecting becomes to you, it is a fun- filled experience where the everyday person can find extraordinary things right in their pocket! Even in your common pocket change, there can be a variety of rare coins and banknotes found. Never assume old coins or banknotes found anywhere are not valuable due to appearance or condition. Many times, banknotes and coins can have quite a bit of damage can still command a heavy premium over face value!
Decide what you want to collect:
- Modern coin or banknote errors
- Defunct or Obsolete Currency
- Large or Small Face Banknotes
- Foreign coins or your home country’s currency.
- Smaller denominations or larger denominations
- Circulated coins
- Uncirculated coins (UNC) which have been available in the United States since the 1950s.
- Proof sets which are uncirculated coins prepared especially for collectors and enthusiasts. Also, Silver proof sets which are very beautiful (more affordable than gold) and their value will increase (or decrease) as the value of silver increases (or decreases).
- And with a little research… many other varieties of currency and genres of collecting are open as well!
